Cleaning with rotating brushes

Mechanical cleaning with rotating brushes is one of the most effective methods to clean the tubes of (smaller) shell and tube heat exchangers. The equipment is simple and safe to use. A tube cleaning system drives a flexible shaft, which then rotates a brush. Because the brushes rotate at high speed, continuous friction is created inside the tubes and the deposits will quickly release. In combination with a low-pressure water flush, the loosened deposits are immediately flushed out of the tubes. The water also acts as cooling for the flexible shaft core and brushes.

Applications HVAC/Industry

Cleaning tube heat exchangers with rotating brushes is relatively easy to perform. In addition, this technique is safe for the operator and the installation itself. The chance of damaging tubes is virtually impossible, especially with nylon brushes. This technique is particularly interesting for the following systems/installations:

• Watercooled condensers/chillers.
• Process heat-exchangers (often found within the petrochemical/process industry).
• Tubes of air fin coolers.
• Evaporator tubes of aircooled chillers.

Utilizing the technology

Goodway tube cleaning systems can be used for internal tube diameters of 7,0 millimeters and above. Please note that more accessories are required for various internal diameters. This is because different brushes and flexible shafts are available to clean any tube diameter. The softer the deposits, the easier and more effective the cleaning will be. Depending on the fouling and situation, different combinations of equipment and accessories can be chosen. Below you will find the most important features of this technique:

With the rotary tube cleaning equipment you can remove different types of deposits. In general, the focus is more on light to medium fouling, but it is also possible to remove harder fouling. Below you will find the most common types of deposits that can be removed with Goodway equipment:

• Biofilm (slime).
• Calcium carbonate (limescale).
